DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implants are the most novel treatment approach to partial or complete edentulism, which is the lack of one or more or all teeth. A dental implant is an appliance similar in shape and size to the root of a tooth. It is made of titanium, which is a highly biocompatible material and capable of integrating with the bone (osseointegration), thus being able to act as the base (anchor) for a dental prosthesis.

Following implant placement, a period of three to six months is needed to allow for osseointegration to take place and then the implant-retained dental prosthesis (crown, bridge or denture) is fabricated.
